Character Creation Wizard
The creation wizard builds a character from a blank slate. It opens from the Actor Directory header or from the Create Actor dialog by choosing Create with Hero Mancer 2. See Quick Start for the fastest path through it.

Window layout
Section titled “Window layout”The wizard is one window split into two regions beneath a full-width header: a left sidebar holding the live preview on top with the vertical tab list below it, and a center body showing the active tab.
Live preview
Section titled “Live preview”The side panel is a live character summary that updates as choices are made. It shows the character portrait, name, class and level, and origin, plus a grid of running values: armor class, hit points, initiative, speed, proficiency bonus, hit die, saving throws, and senses. Coin remaining appears here once a starting wealth pool is in play. The preview is a reading aid, not an input area. A field changed on a tab is reflected in the panel.
Saving and leaving
Section titled “Saving and leaving”A footer runs along the bottom with Back and Next buttons, a global progress bar, and a Cancel button. Save draft stores progress for a later resume, and “Draft saved.” appears when it succeeds. When you have turned on the randomizer, a Randomize button sits in the footer as well (see Randomizer and Compare).
Closing the wizard with unsaved changes raises a confirmation titled Unsaved Changes. It offers Save draft, Discard, or cancelling to stay in the wizard.
Start tab
Section titled “Start tab”The Start tab collects the basics. Its first section is headed Player settings.

- Name. The player types a name, or clicks the shuffle button to roll one. Two dropdowns beside the field control the rolled name. The middle one picks a style and the right one picks a cultural flavor.
- Starting level. When you allow it, the player can set the level the character begins at.
- Character art. The player browses to a portrait image, which appears on the sheet, in the preview panel, and on chat cards.
- Token art. The player browses to a separate token image, or checks Use character art for token to mirror the portrait onto the token.
GM assigning a character to a player
Section titled “GM assigning a character to a player”When a GM runs the wizard, the Start tab adds an Assign to player dropdown. Pick a player and the finished character is handed to them.
Identity
Section titled “Identity”The Identity tab holds three sub-tabs: Species, Class, and Background. Each one works the same way. The player opens the sub-tab and chooses an option from its dropdown, and a description loads beneath the picker.

Each picker is a single flat list of options sorted alphabetically by name. A search box at the top of the dropdown filters the list by name.
Each option shows small pills that note its mechanics.
Class and multiclass
Section titled “Class and multiclass”The Class sub-tab uses a class roster. At level 1 it is a single class picker. When the starting level is above 1, the roster gains level steppers and an Add multiclass button for splitting levels across several classes. The primary class grants the character’s starting equipment and level-1 maximum hit points. A balance banner warns when the assigned levels do not add up to the starting level, and a prerequisite warning flags any class whose multiclass requirement is unmet.
After a class is picked, a subclass picker may appear for choosing a subclass and reading its description.
Comparing options
Section titled “Comparing options”Each option card carries a Pin to compare button. Pinning two or more species, classes, subclasses, backgrounds, or feats and opening the compare window lines up their mechanics side by side. The full comparison feature is covered on the Randomizer and Compare page.
The remaining tabs
Section titled “The remaining tabs”The Identity choices feed every tab that follows. Each one has its own page:
- Abilities. Scores are generated and assigned by the method you allow. See Ability Scores.
- Hit Points. Hit points are set by maximum, average, or rolling, depending on the methods you allow. The tab activates once a class is picked. See Hit Points.
- Equipment. The player takes granted equipment or starting wealth, then shops with any gold on hand. See Equipment and Gold.
- Biography. The player fills in personality, alignment, appearance, and backstory.

- Advancements. The player resolves the choices a character’s class, species, and background grant. See Advancements.
- Finalize. A review of everything chosen. This is the last stop before the character is created.

Finishing up
Section titled “Finishing up”The footer button creates the character. When any required choices are still incomplete, a Create anyway? prompt lists what is missing and warns that creating now may leave advancements unset. The player can go back to finish those choices or create the character as-is.
When you require approval, submitting locks the wizard read-only until you review it. See GM Approval for what happens next.
