Sun Dial

A circular floating clock with an animated sky. Drag the sun handle around the rim to set the time of day.

  • Click the HUD dome. Clicking outside the dial closes it again.
  • Toolbar button (if enabled in Settings Panel > Module tab > Toolbar Apps)
  • Journal footer button (if enabled)
  • Settings Panel > Sun Dial tab (click the Open Sun Dial button)
  • On world load (if Show Sun Dial on Load is enabled)
  • The API: CALENDARIA.api.showSunDial()

To close the Sun Dial, press Escape.

Clicking the HUD dome opens the Sun Dial only for a user with the Change Date/Time permission. The other entry points need only View Sun Dial.

An animated sky sits inside a circular frame with hour markers around the edge. The sky matches the current time of day: blue sky and sun during the day, stars at night.

The markers follow the active calendar’s hours per day, so a calendar with a non-24-hour day gets a matching number of ticks. Numbered markers appear at roughly quarter-day intervals.

Weather plays inside the dial. Precipitation and cloud effects from the active weather preset render over the sky, and the sky color is tinted to match. Moons rise and set alongside the sun. Weather particle effects follow the Weather Effects setting in Settings.

A draggable sun handle sits on the dial edge at the current hour. To change the time, drag clockwise or counterclockwise. Time updates as you drag and applies on release.

The time input sits at the center of the dial and shows the current time. To set a specific time, edit it directly.

Drag the bottom-right handle to resize the Sun Dial.

Hovering the Sun Dial reveals control buttons:

ButtonAction
Play/PauseToggle the real-time clock
Create NoteCreate a note at the current date and time
SettingsOpen the Settings Panel

To lock or unlock the clock, shift-click the play/pause button. A locked clock shows a padlock instead of the play icon and will not start until unlocked. The same padlock appears when the clock speed is set to zero.

For fast multi-day time changes, keep dragging the sun handle around the dial.

  • Each complete revolution of the dial adds a day, or subtracts one when dragging counterclockwise
  • A day-offset indicator above the time input shows the total
  • On release, accumulated days and final time apply together
  • Right-click while dragging to cancel the adjustment
  • Enable it from the context menu or Settings Panel > Sun Dial tab

With crank mode off, a drag applies the shortest path to the time you land on. Dragging forward more than half a day rewinds to that time earlier in the day instead. Crank mode removes that limit.

Right-click the Sun Dial to access:

OptionDescription
Enable/Disable Crank ModeToggle Crank Mode for this user
Reset PositionReset to default position and clear sticky zone
Lock/Unlock PositionToggle position locking
Show to All / Hide from AllToggle forced visibility for all players (GM only)
OpenSubmenu to open any of the other Calendaria apps
CloseClose the Sun Dial

While Show to All is on, a player who tries to close the Sun Dial gets a warning and the dial stays open.

The Sun Dial does not check the Change Date/Time permission. Any user who can open the dial can drag the handle or type in the time field, and the change is relayed to the GM client and applied to world time. To restrict the dial, use the View Sun Dial permission in Permissions.

Drag the Sun Dial to reposition it. The sun handle, the time input, and the resize handle do not start a drag.

The Sun Dial snaps to predefined screen positions when dragged nearby. See HUD > Sticky Zones for zone locations.
