Equipment and Gold
The Equipment tab handles everything a character carries at the start of play. It covers the gear granted by class and background, the option to take starting wealth instead of that gear, and a shop for spending gold on hand.

The tab shows “Pick a class and background to see starting-equipment choices.” while neither a class nor a background is picked. Picking either one makes that source’s granted gear and choices appear.
Granted Equipment
Section titled “Granted Equipment”This sub-tab lists the starting gear as a set of tiles. A multiclass character shows the granted gear from the primary class only, since that is the class that supplies starting equipment.
Tiles come in two kinds:
- Fixed grants are items the character receives automatically. They are checked by default.
- Choices ask the player to pick between options. The player opens the tile to make a selection. When a choice grants more than one pick, the tile shows a separate slot for each pick, and the same option may be selected in more than one slot.
A tile marked as a pack does not expand inline. Its foot shows the bundled item count, and hovering it shows a tooltip listing the bundled contents and any pickers inside. Tiles that hand over coins instead of gear are labelled as wealth or coin. When a class or background package bundles coins alongside its gear, and those coins are not part of an either/or choice, the character gets them automatically in the purchase pool. Turning on Take starting wealth for that source swaps them out for the rolled wealth.
Choices with a search picker
Section titled “Choices with a search picker”Some choices offer a long list of options, such as “any martial weapon.” These open a picker with a search box (“Search options”) that filters the list by name.
Take gold instead
Section titled “Take gold instead”A choice that allows it includes a Take gold instead option. Selecting it skips that piece of gear and converts it to coin that lands in the purchase pool.
Take starting wealth instead
Section titled “Take starting wealth instead”Instead of accepting any granted gear at all, a player can take a lump sum of starting wealth. Each source that supports this shows a Take starting wealth instead toggle.
Turning the toggle on sets that source’s granted gear aside. The summary shows what the character will receive:
- For a flat amount, it shows the gold value directly.
- For a rolled amount, it shows the formula and its average along with a Roll wealth button.
Pressing Roll wealth locks in a rolled result, and the tile then shows the rolled total. Wealth taken this way funds the purchase shop.
Bonus starting gold
Section titled “Bonus starting gold”You can grant every new character an extra pool of starting gold on top of class and background wealth. When this is set up, a Bonus starting gold entry appears on the Granted Equipment sub-tab.
- A fixed amount is added automatically.
- A dice formula is rolled here. The button reads Roll until rolled, then Reroll. A fixed amount resolves up front and shows no button.
Refunding skipped equipment
Section titled “Refunding skipped equipment”When the refund option is enabled, unchecking a granted equipment item adds that item’s price back into the shop pool. This behavior is on by default and can be turned off in Settings.
The purchase shop
Section titled “The purchase shop”The Purchase Equipment sub-tab is the shop. It spends the gold a character has accumulated. That gold comes from starting wealth, skipped choices, refunded equipment, and bonus starting gold.
With no gold and an empty cart, the shop hides its catalogue and shows the message “Enable a wealth toggle in Granted Equipment to unlock starting gold for purchases.”

The cart
Section titled “The cart”The cart lists everything added, the quantity of each, and the running cost against the pool. An empty cart reads “Cart empty. Click a tile to add it.” Remove drops an item from the cart.
Everything in the cart is carried by the finished character and appears in the creation summary on the Finalize tab.
